Flashback Friday!

A year ago today F was about halfway through Officer Training School at Maxwell AFB in Montgomery, Alabama. I was missing him really bad and had heard some other wives talking about going to visit their husbands as the upcoming weekend would be their first one that they could leave base. I decided "what the hell!?" and tagged along. F had no idea I was coming until the night before I left. To say he was thrilled was an understatement. His morale skyrocketed for the remaining 6 weeks of training...as did mine! Words can't even describe how happy I felt and how amazing that trip was. Sure it was two trips at 15 hours a piece and a whole lot of money put in, but it was worth every second and every penny.

Valentine's Day 2011

This year's Valentine's Day was very meaningful to me. For starters, it's the first one that F and I have been married for. Second, it's the first one we have been together for. The Air Force has this way of ensuring we're never together for Valentine's Day but, this year, we won that battle and were finally together for the "holiday of love". It was definitely a memorable evening. After F got out of work, I "kidnapped" him and took him to Longhorn Steakhouse as his gift from me. He was really excited and LOVED his steak! I definitely know the way to that boy's heart. The meal started with a "Texas Tonion" as an appetizer, thanks to my coupon for a free appetizer.

After the appetizer, we each had a Caesar salad that may have been one of the best ones I've ever had. For the main course, we each had some variation of steak. F had a big, juicy Porterhouse that was a whopping 22oz! It was served with a good sized baked potato. As for me, I enjoyed a 7oz filet stuffed with crab and topped with crab, spinach, and a delicious sauce. All served with a large baked sweet potato with butter and cinnamon. Needless to say, we both left with takeout boxes!

Originally the "kidnapping" also included a trip to Coldstone but we both agreed we were way too stuffed so Coldstone will have to happen another time. Once we got home, F surprised me with a really funny yet cute card and an adorable stuffed puppy I have since named Nugget. F had agreed to pay for my wedding photobook I'm having made on Shutterfly as my Valentine's Day gift so getting something yesterday was quite the surprise!

It was a fantastic Valentine's Day and a true reminder of just how lucky I am to have such an amazing husband. I couldn't have asked for a better first Valentine's Day together. :)

Flashback Friday!

The night F and I met (with the girl that introduced us). It was my 22nd birthday party. Who knew one of my presents would be my future husband!?

Hidden Finds

This weekend I made a discovery that might deplete my wallet. A captain that F works with text me Friday asking if I wanted to go out the next day because she wanted to get out of the house. I hadn't ever really hung out with her before but she always seems so pleasant I decided, why not? She told me she wanted to do some shopping but I had no idea the awesome place I was about to see. She and I ventured out, with her son, to Trader's Market about halfway between base and Cincinnati. I've been to flea markets back home but this one just blew my mind. Maybe it's because the flea markets I've been to before were when I was a kid and didn't have a use for anything they were selling, but this one was like heaven to me. I saw so much cute stuff for the house! I tried to be good and not spend too much money, but I definitely see myself going back a few more times.  I also tried two new restaurants, City Barbeque and El Rancho Grande, this weekend. Both were excellent! All this is making me think I need to start a list of little places to enjoy in the Dayton area. I get the feeling the list will be rather long by the time we move in 3 years. But I also think I am totally okay with that.

My finds for the house:

Flashback Friday

I've never done a Flashback Friday before but I guess there's a first for everything! Here's F and I when we were about 3 years old. :)

Snowmaggedon 2011

The big winter storm affecting the Midwest has hit Wright-Patterson AFB. F and I woke up this morning to an inch of ice on EVERYTHING. The second wave of freezing rain should be here in a few hours, with a couple inches of snow to follow. Then there's supposed to be higher winds on Wednesday which could cause power to go out. Base is closed for the day which is kind of nice as I enjoy having F home. But it is definitely dangerous out so I'm hoping, if base is open tomorrow, they will at least salt the roads which, so far, doesn't look likely. Here's to hoping the power stays on!!
